A new friends group has formed to help restore and protect Kingshill Allotment Woods in KT4, with conservation work already underway.
Recent activities include access clearance, woodland and tree surveys, bramble management, reptile habitat installation, and the removal of invasive Sycamore trees. Cleared areas are being managed to encourage native wildflowers and improve biodiversity.
Wildlife monitoring has already identified a fox family with five cubs and two hedgehog sightings.
Work is currently being carried out by a small volunteer team to minimise disturbance during the breeding season, with wider volunteering opportunities planned for autumn and winter.
Upcoming opportunities:
• Species surveying – Summer / Autumn
• Bramble management – Autumn / Winter
There is currently no public access to the site. For volunteer enquiries or guided visits, contact:

The Manor Park Volunteers carried out a range of hands-on tasks to help keep the park safe, welcoming, and ecologically healthy:
Bramble cut-back – clearing undergrowth along key pathways to improve visibility and access
Woodchip path spreading – reducing muddiness and making informal routes more walkable
Dead-hedge building – creating a beautiful wildlife haven and natural barrier to protect sensitive areas
Litter-picking – removing several bags of rubbish and leaving the park noticeably cleaner
Seasonal woodland and pathway care – ongoing maintenance to support both people and nature
The impact was immediate. Pathways feel more open and accessible, habitats have been strengthened, and the space feels cared for and inviting.
These mornings are about more than maintenance. Conversations sparked between neighbours who hadn’t met before. Children learned about habitats and tools, and there was a shared sense of pride in making a visible, positive difference.
The Manor Park Volunteers aren’t just building hedges and improving pathways — they’re nurturing a culture of care, where everyone feels they have a stake in the future of their green space.
